Why do we need Vitamin P?…
LET´S think… PLEASURE as the new vitamin P.
Did you know that our brain demands this “vitamin”?
We are persistently seeking a “positive” pleasure state. We need this vitamin to cope with new challenges.
Searching for new data, I found that Flavonoids were classed as Vitamin P, although they are no longer that. Flavonoids are antioxidants, something WE ALL start seeking at some point of our lives too. (Keep following & you will discover future posts on ANTIOXIDANTS as the ELIXIR OF ETERNAL YOUTH)
But, first, we need to start with a brief definition on Vitamins. They are, vital nutrients that an organism requires in limited amounts. We also called an organic chemical compound VITAMIN when an organism cannot synthesize the compound in sufficient amount…
If there is NOT enough in us… it must be obtained to ensure our welfare state. We normally obtain this supplementation by adding them to our diets as food supplements…
As a pharmacist, I want to tell you that Supplementation is important for the treatment of certain health problems. There is little evidence of nutritional benefits when used by healthy people, however is widely used as a form of PREVENTION.
Some of the symptoms we experience when our “vitamin levels” are low are shown in eyes, skin, hair, nails, mouth, and tongue…
These organs belong to the sensory nervous system and they are responsible for processing sensory information. Although, the experience of pleasure is subjective, there are many pleasure experiences associated with satisfying basic biological drives, such as eating, exercise, hygiene, and sex. (Coming up soon, new posts on Exercise & Vitamin P!)
Our body produces hundreds of neurochemicals. Some scientists have identified a small fraction of these. Here is a list with just a brief description on “the effect”:
- ENERGY by Adrenaline
- REWARD by Dopamine
- CONFIDENCE by Serotonin
- PAIN KILLING by Endorphins
- BOND & CONNECTION by Oxytocin
- ANTI-ANXIETY by GABA (=gamma-Aminobutyric acid)
They interfere in some form with the mechanism of Vitamin P. (If you want to know more about the effect of these neurochemicals on Pleasure, please do get in touch!)
As part of my mission on Prevention & Pharmaceutical Care I really hope we got the purpose! So, it is time to improve our wellbeing by increasing our levels of Vitamin P.
GIVE YOURSELF ENOUGH VITAMIN P, because there is no risk of side effects …

Smiling is a good start and eating, exercise, hygiene and sex are good follow-on sources of pleasure, but what of the mind? The body is a stimulus only – pleasure is experience within. Is there a way to stimulate the mind directly?
I ask because I’m genuinely interested to know more. 🙂

I’m glad you asked me that, Robert! Because I think most of your posts are full of pleasure 😉
My thought is: By being positive and open minded. Positive thinking creates pleasure! Try to build this by repetition… And always, try to KEEP IT SIMPLE…
Some things are not needed… Remember this: “If a 24/7 is open all day all 365 days of a year… Why do they have locking doors???”

Thanks for that, Mary – I try to pack as much pleasure as I can into life.
Yes – great idea: think positive and keep on doing so – nice one!
Yeah – good example too. If negative thoughts are not needed, why do we bother to have them? 🙂

We bother with negative ones to justify our behavior in most of the cases. The real problem comes when we believe in them as real! …
As individuals that live in society… I think we need to break the cycle by giving pleasure to others!!!!😉👌
That’s what I like calling ACTION-REACTION

Giving pleasure to others – now you’re talking! 😉
But yes – giving positivity to another is a win-win, because you get to feel it first as it passes through to them -right?
You are very helpful and caring, Mary – I like that in you.

Oh yes. That 24 mile hike went really well (https://levishedated.wordpress.com/2016/07/26/blisters-on-my-blisters/) – I managed to come away with no tears, strains, pulls, breaks or blisters – it was a triumph! 🙂

Trick is to keep greasing the feet – it’s all about the friction. But wow – 2,650 miles! That’s some feat for feet. 🙂
Gets calculator out … tap tap tap … 17.6666 miles a day – nice! 🙂 Did you see that movie – Wild, with Reese Witherspoon? Or maybe Cheryl Strayed is your friend! 🙂

Wow – she seems like a fascinating woman – and so courageous. I read some of her blog and left a comment – thanks for that, Mary. She had some problems at customs with the food, but it looks like her visa is good. I find sleeping to be pretty easy. You have some challenges there?
